Google is rolling out an update that allows Gemini to connect directly to a user’s Google Business Profile, aiming to make its AI more useful for business owners. The integration uses a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) system, which means Gemini can pull real-time data from a business’s profile to ground its answers in specific operational details, rather than relying on general knowledge.
The feature is designed to solve a common problem with large language models: they don't know the specific details of any given company. By connecting to live business data, Gemini can provide more contextually aware assistance.
The global rollout is planned for June 2026, though it will not be available in the European Economic Area (EEA) or the UK at launch. Access is opt-in, requiring users to grant Gemini permission to access their profile data.
At the core of the new feature is an opt-in connector that pipes data from a Google Business Profile directly into Gemini. Before responding to a prompt, the system first retrieves relevant, up-to-date information from the connected profile to inform its output.
The data pulled from the profile includes key operational information like:
In practice, this allows Gemini to handle specific tasks, like drafting personalized replies to customer reviews by analyzing existing sentiment or identifying gaps in a business profile by reviewing search impression data.
To manage these new capabilities, Google is also launching Business Notebooks. This is essentially a centralized workspace inside the Gemini app where users can manage projects that involve multiple steps and data sources without losing context between sessions.
The Notebooks environment can handle several data inputs at once. For example, a user could connect their Google Business Profile, link their company website, and upload internal documents to create a private knowledge base for a specific project. This enables more complex work, like correlating customer feedback from a business profile with traffic data from a website to spot market trends.
It also helps create consistent marketing materials, allowing users to generate social media posts, emails, and ad copy that all draw from the same set of grounded business facts and customer reviews. Each project, along with its chats, data sources, and generated content, is saved in a single, persistent location.
Business Notebooks also includes a proactive analysis feature that can scan connected data to suggest tasks or highlight key insights. The update is part of Google's broader enterprise strategy. Gemini Enterprise subscribers ($21-$30 per user, per month) will be able to extend this architecture to connect with third-party data sources, including Microsoft 365 and Jira.
